Hi everyone,
While I myself spent most of 2024 learning WebAssembly and speaking about it at various conferences, I also continued my efforts trying to get more of my students involved in our community.
Here's a quick showcase of what we've accomplished in 2024:
- Mona and Chardeh worked as volunteers at the Swift Craft conference, even though they didn't have any experience with Swift whatsoever.
- Marwane interned with @sebsto at AWS and developed a Visual Studio Code extension for Swift on AWS Lambda.
- Babeth wrote her thesis on the Swift OpenAPI Generator and presented her results at the ServerSide.swift conference. This was definitely the highlight of 2024, and my career as a teacher so far.
Here's some of what we have in the pipeline for 2025:
- We will finally have a Swift devroom at FOSDEM. Two students have signed up as volunteers to help run the devroom.
- Two students are currently exploring Adwaita for Swift for their thesis.
- One student is trying out the Skip transpiler for his thesis.
- Mona will intern at AWS, focusing on Swift and AI.
Unfortunately, it also looks like Swift will disappear from my day job in 2025. This will make it much harder for me to continue the work I've been doing. So if you care about Swift's future, and you appreciate the work I've been doing with Swift in higher education, please consider becoming a backer.
