Hey all you users and fans of the Swift Extension of VS Code :waving_hand:

The user base of the extension continues to grow, and we see more users raising issues, requesting features, and even raising PRs! To respond to this, the aim is to start posting a “digest” to share developments in the extension project over the past week(s).

:white_check_mark: What we addressed?

  • Focussed on verifications and bug fixes, working towards a 2.12 release next week

  • Improving debugging support to be able to build and then debug swiftbuild system binaries

  • Began considering how the extension can respond to setting changes without having to reload the VS Code window

  • Test improvements have resulted in us hitting 11 days of successful nightly test runs

:beetle: New Issues

:date: What’s coming up?

  • The upcoming 2.12 release will have support for installing and selecting Swiftly toolchains on macOS and Linux

  • Working on adding macOS platform tests to PR verifier and nightly test jobs

  • Continue determining and designing how best to respond to setting changes so the extension does not need to be fully restarted often
