Swift Google Summer of Code 2026

Hello everyone,
As you've likely noticed already, we are participating in Google Summer of Code again this year!

Preparing proposals

This means that now's the time to check out our project ideas page and reach out to mentors on the forums! Please tag threads with the [gsoc-2026] tag and @-mention mentors when starting threads about your topic of interest. Those threads work best if you did some initial research and have some actionable questions. Just a general greeting is nice, but won't really help you polish up your proposal.

If you have any questions about summer of code, please consult the getting started guide and the contributor guide, and feel free to start questions in this thread or new threads as well. There's also this thread with proposal examples where some folks are discussing how to prepare a good looking proposal.

Please remember to write proposals and discussions using your own voice and don't just automate interactions, GSoC is a learning experience and all about learning from eachother and connecting with the community.

Past years

You can also check out last year's project writeups on the Swift blog:

Timeline

As always, the source of truth for the project timelines is the summer of code website: Google Summer of Code Timeline  |  Google for Developers Make sure you check this out and put reminders in your calendars to not miss the submission deadline!

The upcoming key dates are:

:record_button: 2026 GSoC Timeline

  • Feb 19 – Mar 15 — Contributors discuss ideas with mentoring organizations
  • Mar 16 — Contributor application period begins
  • Mar 31 — Contributor application deadline
  • Apr 30 — Accepted contributor projects announced
  • May 25 — Coding begins

Got process questions?

This year I'll have some help from @bkhouri in org admin tasks. Please feel free to reach out to him or myself with any questions about GSoC process, moderation or similar questions.

Preferably threads on the forums are best, since many people may have the same questions, but if you'd like to send a private message that's also ok.
