There's no credit given to the possibility that "the opposition" might just have an informed and valid objection to these policies. I'd ask everyone involved to have the humility to consider this possibility, towards each other.

I took John's point in the original announcement to be precisely that:

Moreover, we are not acting like the proverbial clockmaker: we are not building this and then leaving it to run untended forever. If, somehow, you are correct and this initiative somehow damages the community, we will see that, and we will take corrective action. But we are not going to refrain from trying it simply because of your highly abstract concerns.

There's a difference between "we don't consider objections valid" and "we have considered the objections, disagree that they outweigh the benefit, and will be continuously reevaluating as more information becomes available."
