New to open source contibutions

Hi everyone,

I am Anshika Gaur, and I’m new to open-source contributions. I have experience with programming languages such as Java, C++, and Python, and I’m eager to contribute to Swift.

I would be grateful for your guidance on how to get started. Specifically, I’d love to know:

Which Swift projects would be good for beginners like me?
Are there any areas or repositories I should explore to prepare for GSoC 2025?

Looking forward to your suggestions and excited to become part of the Swift community!

Regards,
Anshika Gaur

Open source, and really any discipline, is driven by interest, so the question is, what interests you? Of course, some projects are more difficult to understand than others, so higher-level tools that are written in Swift like the Swift source formatter or package manager are good places to start.

Past project ideas going back to 2019 are listed or linked at Swift.org - Project Ideas for GSoC 2024 - take a look at those and the repos linked to see what interests you and start exploring their source. Build some projects that interest you, start using and tinkering with them, and figure out what deficiencies you want to improve.
