The Swift Server Side Meetup is back for its 6th edition! This time, we’re highlighting how Swift is expanding its reach — from powering production cloud systems to bridging the gap with Java and Android. Whether you’re interested in interoperability or large-scale deployments, this is a meetup you won’t want to miss.

Swift and Java already worked together through JNI, but recent advances take things much further. Thanks to this year’s Google Summer of Code, the swift-java tool’s jextract mode now supports JNI as a fallback mechanism when modern Java FFM APIs aren’t available.

This means you can now generate bindings for entire Swift libraries and bring them directly into Android applications. With the formation of the new Swift Android Working Group and work towards an official SDK, this is a big step forward for Swift on Android.

Mads will show how FFM mode and JNI differ, and walk through building a Swift library that can be shared across Swift, Java, and Android.

:microphone: Vojtěch Rylko, Software Engineer @ Cultured Code

Behind the popular productivity app Things lies a cloud service—Things Cloud—that runs almost entirely on Swift. In this talk, Vojtěch explains how Cultured Code transitioned their infrastructure to Swift with minimal downtime, and how the language influences their design patterns, architecture, and engineering practices.

From frameworks to testing strategies (and even how they intentionally break their systems to strengthen them), you’ll get a rare inside look at how Swift is used to run a large-scale, real-world cloud service.

:pushpin: Whether your focus is cross-platform interoperability or cloud scalability, this meetup showcases Swift’s growing versatility.
