Mac m4 mini

Hi, friends. I'm just a newbie that starts my own way in swift programming. I'm thinking about buying mac mini m4 16gb for work. Please tell me, is it good enough for swift or not? Read a lot but hadn't found enough good information about practical experience. So

Hi @Anstik, heartily recommend mini m4 and 16GB memory should be fine for most usage. As Xcode has a bit of an insatiable appetite for disk over time, the base configuration 256GB is probably best avoided for use as a development machine.

One thing to remember is that Swift was released in 2014. Any modern computer will be far more powerful than even the best available computers from 12 years ago.

While the new Mac mini M4 is an incredibly fast machine, 16GB is a tad bit on the low side. I'd use 32. And don't be disappointed by the compilation speed… Swift (or is it Xcode?) seems not to benefit from many cores.

If you can afford: at least 32GB, 512GB SSD (and a trackpad.)

I consider being able to maintain multiple OS installs (typically, the newest OS along with its predecessor as long as that newest OS is "on notice") to be absolutely mandatory when doing any kind of development on Apple hardware (cf. Pierre Lebeaupin: "…and this right here is the reason why I always h…" - Mastodon - Gougère Network ). This necessarily implies getting (at least) a 512 GB SSD.

(personally I would consider 32GB of RAM if had a need for virtualization, but so far I have found it acceptable to dual-boot, and 16 GB is sufficient for that)
