How to hide view counts of unsolicited private messages?

So… I got this weird-slash-creepy direct private message here on Swift Forums. Apparently private messages here on Discourse come with view counts:

If an engineer here receives a private message that is not appropriate and creepy… it looks like that engineer has no ability to "opt out" of the incremented view count being visible to the sender. Correct?

I'm not sure this is an issue that could be solved just from Swift Forums… it might need to be a fix in Discourse.

Overall… my advice on this topic would be that sending unsolicited private messages on Swift Forums would not give that conversation visibility for view counts. The person receiving the unsolicited message should have that control IMO.

Tangential to the specific point you're raising regarding view counts, but just calling it out: DMs can be flagged for mod attention just like any other post and users should definitely flag any inappropriate messages they receive.
