My name is Sivaraj and I’m currently an iOS developer intern working with Swift and SwiftUI. I’m interested in contributing to the Swift open-source ecosystem and planning to apply for GSoC 2026.
Right now I’m exploring the SwiftSyntax repository and analyzing the codebase. As a beginner to the Swift open-source projects, I’d appreciate some guidance on the best way to start.
Should I directly pick an open issue and try to solve it, or is there a recommended way to understand the architecture before contributing?
Hi there, it's best if you can pick a specific project you're interested in and explore towards that, and ask specific questions you have trouble with on the forums. Ultimately, your goal should be to write a good proposal and connect with the mentor of a specific project that would convience them that you're the best choice for a project.
It's a bit hard to give general directions other than what you're doing already.
