Hello everyone!
I'm Hirday Gupta and I'm currently a Freshman studying Computer Science at UCLA. I know I'm super late to the process, but I would really love to be able to work with Swift.org for GSoC 2018. After going through the projects, I think I would like to work on improving command line status reporting for the SwiftPM. I am extremely fluent in Swift, C++ and have gained familiarity with Shell/Bash Scripting through a class in the previous academic quarter.
I was looking for some guidance on getting started with the process. Specifically, I was looking for guidance with the following:
-
I was wondering if it would be okay if I focus on writing the proposal for now, and then, while applications are under review, I could get started fixing some of the starter bugs?
-
Also, with respect to the "Improving Command Line Status Reporting" Project, I was wondering what would be expected in a proposal (or just general Swift.org guidelines for GSOC Proposals).
Thanks! Look forward to the next steps.
Best,
Hirday.

Hey!
Don't worry about fixing starter bugs and focus on writing your proposal. The deadline to submit proposal is March 27, 2018.
There are no formal guidelines, I suggest looking at GSoC related blog posts and accepted proposals from previous years (of other orgs as it is first year for Swift.org). I also suggest focusing on implementation details of the proposal.
Good luck!
