Dropping Support for Ubuntu 20.04

Swift.org will stop providing new Ubuntu 20.04 nightly toolchains starting July 31st, 2025 for main and release/6.2. Therefore, Swift 6.2 and later releases will not support Ubuntu 20.04.

I notice that Fedora 39 trunk snapshot toolchains have also stopped since April. Is Fedora also to be discontinued with 6.3?

I think there is an open issue for it. I don't know what it exactly entails, but as a Fedora user, happy to help if it is something the community can help with.

I found it quite confusing trying to use Swiftly that only supported Fedora 39.

Ubuntu 20.04 is Focal Fossa, just for the record.

compiler explorer/godbolt has been updated in anticipation of this change, so the development snapshots should hopefully continue to work without issue.

Is there a reason they couldn't adopt 24.04 instead of bumping only to 22.04?

yes, i originally proposed updating to the most recent links, but was informed that is not yet supported.
