Do you think learning basic code knowledge from Swif PlayGround on iPad is a good idea for entry level user?
If your purpose is to become a developer, then it's not good idea to start with Swif PlayGround on iPad
. For beginning level, it'll better to have a mac
or pc
(install hackintosh
) then start learning with Xcode
.
As a teacher, I'd say: definitely yes.
Even though the playground books are aimed at kids, they are the safest way to get introduced to programming. If you start with a "real" course right away, and don't have the supervision of a teacher, you run the risk of being turned off by installation issues, Xcode issues, ...
IMO, yes, it's a good entry point. I know an adult, who started with iPad and Swift Playground to grab some taste and basic ideas of programming. It had helped him a lot. Just as an idea for you, as the next step, he moved to the Harvard's CS50 course by David Malan, available online for free.
