Hi everyone, I wanted to share BerryDB ( GitHub - berry-apps/berrydb-desktop · GitHub ), an open-source database client I've been building natively for macOS using Swift and AppKit.
The goal was to create a clean, single-window workspace for projects that interact with multiple databases—supporting PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, Redis, and MongoDB in a unified tabbed interface.
A few implementation details:
- Built with pure AppKit and custom NSTableView row virtualization backed by direct binary socket streaming. - Integration with Apple Keychain and Secure Enclave for credentials and SSH keys.
- Apache 2.0 license. Pre-built via Homebrew:
brew install --cask berry-apps/tap/berrydb
The project is in its early stages and I'd love to get feedback on the Swift architecture and general macOS user experience from the community!
