Unicode scalar literals

I'm a negative on single-quoted literals in general at this point. The case I most want to use them is for searching through bytes, which is the controversial Int8/UInt8 case; putting it on Unicode.Scalar or Character doesn't sufficiently improve my actual use case because I can't use those for parsing bytes.

How would a trapping UnicodeScalar.ascii property not be a sufficient improvement for the “searching through bytes” usecase?
