We’re excited to invite you to the next Swift Server Side Meetup, where Swift takes a bold step into the physical world—from embedded microcontrollers to full-blown autonomous edge devices. Whether you're curious about Swift on tiny boards or deploying AI to Jetsons and Pis, this is your moment to see what’s possible.
Talks
Think Different, Even on Microcontrollers — Embedded Swift on ESP32
Juraj Michálek, Software Manager at Espressif Systems
What if your next Swift project could run on a Wi-Fi-enabled microcontroller, drive a display, and respond to hardware buttons—all without writing Arduino or C code?
In this talk, we’ll show how Embedded Swift brings the power, safety, and expressiveness of Swift to ESP32 RISC-V microcontrollers, including the ESP32-C6 (Wi-Fi, Matter, Thread) and ESP32-P4 (graphics, compute).
You’ll learn how to build firmware using a subset of Swift tailored for systems with limited memory—but still keeping the language’s modern feel and compile-time safety.
We’ll cover:
-
How Swift can interact with hardware: GPIO, I2C, displays
-
Why value types, enums, and protocols are a great match for peripherals and state machines
-
The toolchain: building, flashing, and debugging with Swift on real ESP32 hardware
-
A live demo: a running application using Swift on ESP32, controlling real-world hardware
Swift for Autonomous Edge Devices – Nvidia Jetson, Raspberry Pi, and more
Maximilian Alexander, Co-Founder & CEO at Wendy Labs
We all know that the future of AI Agents in the physical world is robots, drones and autonomous devices.
If so, then why is it so easy to develop mobile apps but so hard to develop on Raspberry Pis, Nvidia Jetson Nanos, or Embedded Linux devices? After all mobile phones are edge computing, no?
Introducing Edge and EdgeOS, a massive open source project where we make building embedded linux projects as easy as building an iOS app; all powered by Swift.
We’ll cover:
- EdgeOS and the Edge Frameworks
import EdgeAI
import Networking
-
How we enable USB-C deployment and Debugging
-
A video demo of the development experience
-
The state of the Edge project and the roadmap and future vision
-
How you can get started with Edge today
Whether you’re into embedded systems, edge AI, or just love pushing Swift in new directions, this meetup will open your eyes to what Swift can do beyond the server.
Join us Monday, June 23 at 7pm (Amsterdam, Paris), 10am (Cupertino), 1pm (New York) !
