Does child controllers loose reference when I pop the top one?

At the moment I have a problem, that a childViewController looses it reference to the NavigationController

How it works:

Before pop

Menu -> View -> View -> View

After pop

Menu -> View -> View

My Menu now does not hold any reference to the navigation controller.
This in short means, if I click on anything in the menu the navigationController is nil
