I think that there are benefits. e.g. it is often used as a lightweight way to signal agreement, or at least acceptance of a point of view, so it can be one signal that a back-and-forth discussion probably doesn't require more replies.

This, basically. It's a useful signal during a debate that you've communicated your point clearly.
